More than 10 million Azerbaijanis form general 50 millions are living beyond their country of origin. Azerbaijanis have mostly been settled in the Northern, Central and Southern parts of America continent. They count 1 million in the USA, 12 000 in Argentina, 75 000 in Brazil, 170 000 in Canada, 27 000 in Mexico. Our compatriots live also in Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, etc. Their quantity is now being clarified.
The majority of our compatriots living on American continent are migrants from Iran. The flow of part of Azerbaijanis from Turkey since 1970 and from Azerbaijan since 1991 to this continent had input to the structure and social-economic activity of our Diaspora.
The second continent regarding settlement geography and quantitative figures is Europe. According to statistics, the number of European Azerbaijanis counts millions in Turkey and Russia, hundreds thousands in Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, Great Britain, tens thousands in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, France, Italy, more than ten thousand in Poland, Spain, Austria, Albania, Finland, Portugal. Number of Azerbaijanis living in other Western countries is around 2-10 000 people per state. The majority of compatriots living in Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and Germany are Azerbaijanis form Turkey. Those who live in Great Britain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, Estonia, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and France came from Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The third part of Azerbaijani Diaspora is located in the Asian continent.
They count hundreds thousands in Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Jordan and republics of Central Asia, tens thousands in Indonesia, Arab Republic of Yemen, Democratic Republic of Yemen, China, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Syria. Approximately one million Azerbaijanis live in Iraq.
As it comes to the African continent, hundreds thousands of our compatriots live in Egypt and Cairo, 17 000 – in Sudan. According to the latest researches it was defined that our compatriots live also in the Republic of South Africa. There is information about nearly 10 000 Azerbaijanis living in the Australian continent.
