1 mln. 200 thousand years BC - 1 mln.years BC – The first traces of human life in Azikh cave on the territory of Azerbaijan
X-VIII thousand years BC – The most ancient petroglyphs of a protoman on the territory of Azer-baijan. Petroglyphs of Gobustan were included in the list of world heritage by UNESCO
3rd Millennium BC – 1st Millennium BC – Bronze age. Appearance of the first tribal unions on the territory of Azerbaijan.
9th and 7th centuries BC – Emergence of Manna state and Media state. Semination of Zarathustric religion.
4th century BC – Apprearance of Atropatena state. Hellenism age.
3rd century BC – Appearance of Alban kingdom. Expedition of Heraclete and Patroclus aimed at Caspian Sea research.
End of the 1st century BC – 7th century AD – Azerbaijan becomes arena for battles between Parthian and Roman Empires and between Byzantine Empire and Sasanian Iran.
4th-5th centuries – Turkic tribes pass the territory of Azerbaijan.
2nd-4th centuries – Dissemination of Christianity in Albania.
7th century – Inclusion of Azerbaijan to Arabian caliphate. Adoption of the new religion – Islam.
8th-9th centuries – Appearance of the first feudal states on the territory of Azerbaijan – Ravvadids, Shaddadids and Shirvanshakhs.
Middle of the 11th century – Azerbaijan was included to Seljuk Empire.
12th-13th centuries – Emergence of Eldenizid state. Rise of urban life. Prosperity of science and culture, linked to the names of Nizami Ganjavi, Khagani Shirvani, Ajami Nakhchivani etc.
1220-1239 – Invasion of Mongols to Azerbaijan.
1256-1357 – Inclusion of Azerbaijan to Hulagu state. New rise and development of cities. Renais-sance of culture and art.
13th-15th centuries – Rise of Baku city. Construction of Shirvanshakh’s palace in Baku.
1410 – 1467 – Appearance of Gara-Goyunlu state.
1467 – Appearance of Ag-Goyunlu state. Under the reign of Uzun Hasan Azerbaijan for the first time entered into the sphere of European and world policy. Sovereigns of Italy, Hungary, Austria, Poland and other European states maintained diplomatic relations with Uzun Hasan.
1501 - Appearance of Safavi state headed by shah Ismail Khatai. The next flourishing period of cul-tural and intellectual life.
1732 – Collapce of Safavi state and division of the country to separate khanates.
1813 – Turkmanchay peaceful agreement signed in the result of long-term wars between Iran and Russia. Azerbaijan was divided to 2 parts. The North Azerbaijan was included to the Russian Empire.
1848 – First in the world drilling of oil well in Baku (in Bibi-Heybat).
1863 – Launch of the first oil refinery plant in Baku.
1873 – Foundation of Azerbaijani national theatre.
1875 – Publishing of the first Azerbaijani newspaper «Akinchi» (till 1877).
1887 – Opening of the first Russian-Azerbaijani school in Baku.
1908 г. – The first in the Muslim East performance of «Leyli and Majnun» opera by Uzeir Hajibay-ov.
1911 г. – Establishment of «Musavat» party.
28 May 1918 - Adoption of "Act on Azerbaijani Independence ". Creation of Azerbaijani Demo-cratic Republic. It was the first democratic republic in the East.
1921 – Adoption of the First Constitution of the Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Republic.
1926 – Establishment of Azerbaijani film studio.
1945 – Establishment of Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijani SSR.
1945-1954 – Construction and launch of Mingachevir hydropower plant.
1948 – Construction of the first in the world oil-field scaffold bridge in the Caspian Sea known as «Oil rocks».
1988 – Beginning of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
1991 – Independence of Azerbaijan has been restored after the collapse of the USSR. A new age began in the history of the country.
1993 – Azerbaijan entered into the CIS.
3 October 1993 – Heydar Aliyev was elected the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
12 May 1994 г. – Signing of agreement on cease-fire and military operations during the Karabakh conflict.
1994 – Signing of "The Contract of the Century", which was included in the list of the most im-portant agreements in regard to hydrocarbon resources and volume of investments planned. 13 companies from 8 countries (Azerbaijan, Turkey, the USA, Japan, the United Kingdom, Russia and Saudi Arabia)
1998 – Heydar Aliyev was elected the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the second term.
2001 – Entry of Azerbaijan as competent member to the Council of Europe.
2002 – Beginning of the construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Jeyhan oil pipeline. Construction of the big-gest in Europe oil terminal in Sangachal.
2002 – Entry of Azerbaijan to associative membership of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
